P2- Proposal

For my advertising campaign I intend on creating two media components, a print based graphic, and an audio advert to attempt to enrol the current year 11 students to come to collge@deyes sixth form. My print based graphic will be a poster that would be displayed on shop windows and on various walls in public areas, for example the nearby shopping area, Maghull square would be an ideal location as a lot of students will be there and have more chance to see. It would also be put on the Deyes website so its available to everyone there as well as my audio advert. My audio advert will be put on Youtube as this is the best method of distribution for my product as it is free and can reach a large audience. My target audience for my advertising campaign is Local students in the Maghull/Sefton area that are in Year 11 and will be moving on from High school in September 2018, as they will be currently thinking about their next step, and my aim is to make that College@Deyes. It is also important for my products to reach the parents of these students as well as they will have influence in the students decision.

P3- Outsourced audio

For my Audio advert I will need to get some copyright free music as well as some sound effects
To get these I have used Purple Planet, the track I have used was in the motivational section of the website, this is the effect I want my ad to have as its purpose is to motivate students to want to come to College@deyes, I used the track called fearless. This track achieves what I want out of my backing track as it is uplifting and makes the listener feel inspired.

M3- Conventions of a College Audio Ad

Conventions of a college advert

To create my audio advert it was important that I looked at what was successful in other college adverts. From my research I discovered that most radio ads last between 15-60 seconds, however the average tends to be longer. One of the ads I researched, St Mary’s Catholic sixth form was around 40 seconds long, I decided to make mine slightly longer as I wanted to meet all the requirements from my client brief. Another convention of audio sixth form ads was the better ones tended to be short and snappy, as well as straight to the point, however they had a balance between this and enough detail, for example St Mary’s catholic sixth form makes has students making short statements such as “achieve the first steps to my future career” These statements are short and snappy and get their point across, these are common in a lot of college adverts and are featured in mine. Another common convention of a college advert is important information but not too much detail so the listener wants to find out more, an example of this is again in St Mary’s catholic sixth form ad when the voice over says things like “98% pass rate” and “100% University placement success”. This does a good job at making their sixth form sound appealing and is definitely something that I included in mine “100% Success rate in all subjects”. Another common convention of all audio ads is a catchy sound bed, this makes the ad seem more upbeat and can also get stuck in a listener’s head and make them recall the advert later, which would be beneficial as it would increase the chances of them choosing this sixth form. My audio ad follows many codes and conventions of college audio adverts, I made sure that I looked at what was successful and not successful with ads and used that to my advantage.

P3- Pre-production script

D2- How my media product meets the brief

Whilst creating my advertising campaign it was important that I met the client brief, to do this I had to understand it well and repeatedly refer to it during pre-, post and mid production. First of all the brief tells me that the campaign needs to be cross-media, to fulfill this I created both print and audio adverts. I used the information i gathered from my case study to make sure my campaign is all linked together to be a successful use of cross media. This is evident in my script as one of the voice actors say this line "visit our website at www.Deyeshigh.co.uk/ for more information, or call us at 0171 526 3814" it is also evident in my print ad as I included website and social media links as well as link to my audio advert.

The next thing the client brief tells me is the target audience of 15-16, it also specifies that they are looking for "The best GCSE students" To appeal to the better students at GCSE level I made sure my audio advert used motivational language that would be relatable to top tier students, for example my audio ad features students saying things like "I want a Sixth form with no boundaries"
and "I want a sixth form that can match my working level". This makes the sixth form look seem like its the place to be for the students who will work hard to achieve their goals. This is also the reason I decided to have students working in the main image of my print ad as its important that students know they will need to work hard if they come to Deyes Sixth form, this will hopefully turn perhaps more lazy students away from going to this sixth form.

The client brief also has no gender specifications which is reflected within my productions as they feature both genders.
The brief asks for three specific requirements, one of which is to include 2017 A level results within the campaign, I made sure to include this in my audio advert by saying "as well as 100% success rate in all subjects, with 47% being A*-A"
Another one of the client requirements was "Reference to the new buildings recently introduced" of which I have included in my print ad.

The final client requirement is "Reference to the overall student experience offered at College@Deyes. This was an important feature on the other campaigns I researched so I made sure this was prominent in both my print and audio adverts. My audio advert features three students directly talking about what they want out of a sixth form "College@Deyes wants to help you create your own path" this will make the audience relate to these students and feel like College@Deyes is the correct place for them as this is the student experience they want. My Print ad also features students working yet enjoying themselves, this is important as I wanted to show that its an enjoyable experience but does require hard work.
